Formulation Analysis

Formulation Analysis

Optimize Tablet Development with Precision

TaBlitz Formulation Analysis revolutionizes pharmaceutical and nutraceutical tablet development by harnessing advanced AI and standardized methodologies, including those outlined in USP <1062> (Tablet Compression Characterization). This powerful tool empowers formulation scientists, R&D teams, and process engineers to create robust, high-quality tablets with minimal material waste and fewer experimental cycles.

Key benefits

Predict critical powder properties — Using small sample sizes, TaBlitz analyzes Tabletability, Compressibility, and Compactability per USP <1062>, enabling data-driven formulation decisions.

Minimize risks early — Identify and mitigate formulation risks like capping, sticking, or poor compressibility before scale-up.

Streamline development — Tailored formulation and process recommendations reduce trial-and-error and optimize excipient blends and manufacturing parameters.

Reduce material waste and costs — Predictive analysis requires minimal API quantities, ideal for early-stage development before Phase 1.

TaBlitz integrates micromeritic data with advanced predictive models to simulate powder behavior under real-world compression conditions and generates actionable recommendations aligned with USP <1062> and TSM (Tableting Specification Manual).

Risk assessment

Many scale-up failures trace back to the same story: the blend looked perfect in the lab, then behaved differently under commercial strain rates, feeder speeds, or geometry. The comparison below is illustrative—similar to how Guided Experience surfaces relative margins—with filled bars for a narrow operating window versus a robust, scale-ready profile across factors that drive predictive robustness.

“It worked perfectly at lab scale.”

Industry teams use predictive gates so that sentence does not become the prelude to exhibition-batch surprises, PPQ stress, or post-approval drift.
Narrow window (higher risk)
Strain-rate / dwell margin
Flow & feeder sensitivity
Geometry / tooling stress
Segregation & scale margin
Robust profile (scale-ready)
Strain-rate / dwell margin
Flow & feeder sensitivity
Geometry / tooling stress
Segregation & scale margin

TaBlitz helps you evaluate risk inside the platform before pilot-scale commitment: USP <1062>-aligned compaction and micromeritic workups, historical benchmarking, and visualization of multidimensional surfaces so strain-rate sensitivity, flow and feeder effects, geometry-driven density gradients, and segregation paths are examined in silico with micro-scale confirmation—rather than discovered in the first engineering batch or at PPQ.

That approach reduces unnecessary design of experiments (DOE) by concentrating material on high-information tests: typical predictive-robustness packages complete in a few weeks with well under a kilogram of blend for many programs, versus broad factorial grids that burn API before the formulation is proven robust across the intended commercial window.

Regulators are increasingly comfortable with data packages that justify skipping extra intermediate-scale batches when pre-pilot robustness is documented. TaBlitz outputs are designed to support that narrative—traceable, visualization-friendly, and aligned with the gate from formulation lock to scale-ready release.

Predictive Modeling

Predictive Modeling

Forecast Tablet Success with Precision

TaBlitz Predictive Modeling empowers teams to create optimized tablet designs by analyzing formulation data and predicting performance outcomes. Building on USP <1062> analysis, this AI-powered tool uses key test results to recommend tailored tablet designs, minimizing risks and accelerating development.

Key benefits

Data-driven design recommendations — Analyzes flowability, compressibility, and compactability to predict and recommend tablet designs that optimize performance.

Proactive risk mitigation — Identifies potential design flaws like capping, sticking, or poor compaction early, before scale-up.

Accelerated development — Reduces the need for iterative trials, enabling faster progression from formulation to production, especially pre-Phase 1.

Resource optimization — Focus trials on high-potential formulations, conserving APIs and excipients while achieving scalable results.

TaBlitz analyzes formulation data from physical trials per USP <1062> to assess critical powder properties, then predicts how formulations will perform in specific tablet designs and recommends design adjustments to enhance manufacturability.

Score engine overview

The Design Score is the core component of the tablet design engine. Based on specific user inputs collected during the Guided Mode design experience, the score engine outputs ranks for four interdependent components that are critical for both successful SODF manufacturability & scalability and patient compliance (swallowability). Each index is reported on a 0–100 scale, where 100 is the most desirable outcome.

When user inputs lead to suboptimal scores, TaBlitz AI can suggest improvements to the tablet design, increasing the likelihood that the design can be reproduced on the manufacturing floor and reducing iteration cycles.

Design Score
What each index reflects

• Tablet Manufacturability: focuses on tablet design geometry constraints (proportionality/curvature) and how formulation inputs influence those rankings.

• Tool Manufacturability: assesses complexity and limitations of the tooling needed to compress the proposed design, including die characteristics, steel grade, and engraving/bisect attributes.

• Swallowability: guides patient-focused design choices driven by size/shape and geometry transitions; it also considers coating effects and surface characteristics that can impact sticking and gliding.

• Tool Life: is influenced by geometry and tooling details (including steel grade); designs with sharper edges, small radii, and complex transitions can accelerate wear.

Under the hood, each index is calculated from algorithms engineered into weighted averages and curve-effect mechanisms (with pass/fail criteria). The outputs are simplified to a clear 0–100 scale that TaBlitz translates directly into in-situ design suggestions.
